germany is one of the leaders basically had to cut back dramatically because they can't afford it when it started counting. melissa: they say every energy industry at beginning needs to be propped up by the govement until it is viable then it is viable. way we started everything else. why is that wrong? >> the problem we've been saying that for 30 or 40 years and it hasn't really happened. the point here gas actually, and fracked gas offers the opportunity tout carbon emissions dramatically. melissa: how is that possible? >> fundamentally gas emits 40% less than coal for the same amount of energy. and so you produce most of your energy in the u.s. with coal. now you're moving towards gas. that is a great tng for the environment. actually, you have cut twice as much as what everyone else in the world including the kyoto protocol and all the e.u. instead of what the e.u. is paying 20, $30 billion a year to do that, you're making $100 billion a year. that is much better proposition. melissa: is all the fracking distracting us from the idea of developing these other sources of renewable en
